![]() ![]() Characters can obviously be a mix of both, especially as time progresses, but generally speaking they're going to lean toward one or the other. Dynamic characters are changed by the characters/circumstances around them, and Static characters change the characters/circumstances around them. Stories with Dynamic characters generally center around how they're effected by the changes in their life while the story of a Static character centers around how they react to the changes. Dynamic characters which go through some sort of positive/negative character arc by the end of the story, and Static characters which stay relatively the same from beginning to end. ![]() There are generally considered only two types of characters. This thread is based off one that I had written shortly before Volume 6 aired, and with me being a strong proponent of RWBY being a character driven show and currently focusing on writing mechanics and philosophy as I work on a novel, I thought I'd share my opinion of Static characters and flat character arcs, and why contrary to popular belief there's nothing wrong with them.
